The Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies (CMEIS) successfully conducted a professional development training for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) staff and Durham Public Schools at the Teaching & Learning Conference Day in collaboration with the other UNC area studies centers. The training was offered to fifty Language and Social Studies Teachers. Alaa Hammouda, the Outreach Manager for CMEIS, presented on the Middle East and introduced the CHCCS staff to the various educational resources offered by the Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies.
In her presentation, Ms. Hammouda spoke about how teachers can integrate information about Middle Eastern cultures and traditions in their classrooms. She also highlighted some important resources for the teachers such as upcoming events at the center, professional development opportunities, exchange programs, and cultural kits.
UNC Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies wishes to thank all the teachers and staff who attended, provided excellent feedback about the training, and expressed interest in collaborating with the Center in the future!
