Abdul Basith, he/him
Abdul Basith is from Chicago, IL and holds a Bachelors degree and Masters degree in History from the University of Illinois Chicago. He is a first-year PhD student in the History department at UNC and specializes in Global History, with interests in the Middle East, Global Islam, Muslims in the West, Islamic Intellectual History, and scholarly traditions in the Muslim World. He enjoys traveling, playing basketball with friends, and exploring his new home of North Carolina.
What Abdul hopes to achieve from this fellowship:
I hope to learn from scholars in other fields how to effectively interact with the public regarding my scholarship. I intend to construct a public history project that makes use of the professional development brought on as a result of this fellowship. I see this as an opportunity to marry two fields often times not in conversation with one another – Islamic Studies and Public Humanities.
