In early October, CMEIS was honored to host a screening of ‘The Dawn is Too Far’ alongside co-director Dr. Persis Karim.

The 60-minute documentary (https://docfilm.sfsu.edu/dawn-too-far) explores the history, struggles, and impact of four generations of Iranian immigrants to the Bay Area, despite having been continuously “othered” by the tense relationship between the US and Iranian governments and negative media headlines since 1979. The Dawn Is Too Far captures the resilient and complex character of this immigrant community, its challenges and successes, as well as the ways it has contributed to the Bay Area’s culture and communities. Co-director Dr. Persis Karim is Director Emeritus at the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies at San Francisco State University.

CMEIS is grateful to Dr. Karim for her visit and to our generous co-sponsors who made this event possible: the Emamian Lectureship at the Center for Excellence in Persian Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Student Association of Iranians at Duke University, as well as Dr. Ali Jarrahi & Parvin Jarrahi.
