We had an incredible experience delving into the mesmerizing art of Ebru with the talented Hatice Erbaş Sorkunlu! The event began with an insightful presentation by Dr. Micah Hughes, Associate Director for the Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies, who provided an overview of Islamic art. This set the perfect stage for our hands-on workshop.

Our collaboration with Carolina Public Humanities and Guilford Technical Community College was instrumental in making this event a resounding success. The enthusiasm and participation from faculty, staff, and students were truly remarkable. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, with one participant sharing, “This was the most engaging workshop I have attended,” and another expressing their eagerness to participate again.

Throughout the workshop, attendees had the opportunity to create their own unique Ebru artworks, experimenting with vibrant colors and intricate patterns on water. Hatice guided everyone through the process, sharing her expertise and passion for this traditional Turkish art form. The room was filled with creativity and excitement as participants discovered the beauty and tranquility of Ebru.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and made this event so memorable. We look forward to hosting more such enriching cultural experiences in the future!
