Whitman College is seeking a tenure-track position in Islam at the rank of assistant professor. Effective August 2014. Ph.D. required.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to approach Islam in its cultural contexts, as well as presenting Islam in its classical formulations. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in Islam and advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Teaching competence in Judaism would also be desirable. We are a department focused on the non-confessional, comparative study of religion; therefore, an advanced degree in Religious Studies or significant, graduate-level experience in the comparative study of religion is required.

letter of application as well as separate statements addressing the candidate’s teaching interests and scholarly/performance agenda; curriculum vitae; three letters of reference; graduate transcripts; and teaching evaluations or other evidence of demonstrated or potential excellence in undergraduate instruction.
