The Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the position of assistant professor of Persian studies. The position will begin in fall 2013.

The successful applicant will have overall responsibility for directing Persian studies at UT Austin. Applicants must have superior proficiency in Persian and pedagogical expertise in both communicative language learning and content-based instruction. The applicant will also be expected to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses that attract interest in Persian studies, teach Persian language and content courses as program needs dictate, and help strengthen ties with others interested in Iranian studies across the campus. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to maintain a strong record of research and publications and engage in service to the department, the university, and the profession.

Applicants must have a PhD in hand at the time of appointment, must have a record of excellence in teaching at the college level, and must demonstrate a record of, and agenda for, research contributions to the field of Persian/Iranian studies. Review of applications will begin November 7, 2012, with the intention of conducting preliminary interviews at the annual meeting of the Middle East Studies Association in Denver, Colorado, November 17-20, 2012.
