The School of Modern Languages is seeking to appoint a scholar with an international reputation to a Senior Lectureship or Readership in Arabic from 1 January 2018. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate the ability to attract grant funding and lead high quality externally funded research projects. The successful candidate will be expected to have a range of interests and to be highly active in research publication that strengthens or complements those in the Department.

Candidates must hold a PhD, should possess native or near-native language skills in Arabic and English, should have an internationally recognised research record and a clear programme of anticipated research activity for the coming years. They should also have a commitment to delivering high quality teaching within the broad field of Arabic Studies, and to be capable of teaching the subject to undergraduate and postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds.
