The Department of Political Science and the Department of Judaic & Near Eastern Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, invite applications for a joint hire in Islamic Philosophy and Political Thought. The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level, tenure track, beginning Fall 2013. The tenure home of the new faculty member will be the Department of Political Science. He/she will be granted adjunct faculty status with full privileges to teach, advise, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Judaic & Near Eastern Studies. We seek a scholar capable of teaching the history of, as well as contemporary trends in, Islamic philosophy and political thought. The ideal candidate will have a research agenda that engages the universitys current diverse faculty members in political theory and Middle Eastern Studies. A Ph.D. is required no later than Sept 1, 2013. Review of dossiers will begin on December 7, and continue until the position is filled.
