The University of Exeter has ambitious plans for growth. The College of Social Sciences and International Studies has a rich research culture and its disciplinary units were comfortably placed in the top 20 for research in the last Research Assessment Exercise. Our student experience is excellent and improving with the continued investments in capital projects and staff, a fact which may be contributing to the exceptional demand for places we are currently experiencing from home and international students alike.

We are now seeking to appoint a Chair in Middle East Politics and International Relations from 1 August 2012 to contribute to the research, teaching and leadership of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. The appointee will have a track record in producing high quality publications in Middle Eastern Politics and/or International Relations of the Middle East (MEP/IRME). Applicants may have expertise in any area of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The new appointment will build the profile of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies within MEP/IRME research grouping through dynamic leadership, successful external grant bidding, attracting strong doctoral candidates and contributing to a varied undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programme. If the appointee’s interests are appropriate he/she may be offered the Al-Qasimi Chair in Arab Gulf Studies.

We are offering a starting salary of not less than of GBP 65,000 per annum, although a higher salary may be available to an exceptional candidate.
