2 Year Fixed Term Contract

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (RA) to work on the project, ‘A Hermeneutics of Civic Engagement? Reading the Qur’an and Sunna in British Islam’. The project is funded for two years by Templeton Religion Trust, and the Principal Investigator (PI) is Dr Caroline Tee. The post will commence between September 2019 and March 2020.

Working alongside the PI, the RA will devise, undertake and write up the findings of 12 months of ethnographic research in a Muslim community in England. The successful candidate will therefore have experience and expertise in anthropological approaches to the study of Islam, preferably in a Western context, and will have a proven track record of conducting ethnography.

You will hold a PhD in Social Anthropology or a cognate discipline (or will have submitted your thesis by the time of appointment). You will also have, or be establishing, a track record of publication.
