University of California, Los Angeles, the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, announces an open search for a tenure track (Assistant or Associate Professor) position in Iranian Studies to be filled effective July 1, 2013. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold by the start of the appointment, a PhD in the field of classical Persian literature. The successful candidate will be familiar with a broad range of pre-modern literary traditions and have native or near native command of the Persian language. Ability to cover modern Persian literature and knowledge of Arabic is also desirable. The candidate will be required to offer large introductory courses in classical Persian literature, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate seminars in the field of his/her specialty. In addition, the successful candidate will teach advanced Persian language courses and be involved in coordinating language teaching at all levels. The ability to teach large undergraduate courses in the civilization of medieval and pre-modern Iran is also desirable. Applicants will be expected to work closely with the Gustave von Grunebaum Center for Near Eastern Studies.
