A growing department of religious studies in the metropolitan campus of the state university, the Religion Program of the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a specialist in Islamic Studies to fill a full-time, tenure-line position as Assistant Professor. The university and department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a cognate field, a working knowledge of Arabic, and evidence of an active research agenda (e.g., academic publications) in some branch of Islamic studies. The successful applicant will demonstrate training in and/or ability to teach an Introduction to World Religions (freshman survey), Islam (junior level), Quran, and other courses in Islamic studies. He or she will have the opportunity to help shape the curriculum of our department by revising and developing courses, to maintain an active research and publication agenda, and to participate in a variety of program events and priorities, including opportunities within UNO and the larger community. Publication in a peer-review academic journal is highly desirable.
