The Department of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst ( seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the subfield of comparative politics to start in September 2014. The position is open with regard to substantive focus, but applicants whose research falls within the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: political violence, political geography, political ethnography, or subaltern/postcolonial studies. The position is also open with respect to time period and geographical specialization, although the department has particular needs for scholars whose work focuses on East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, or the Middle East. Successful candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand by September 2014 and will teach introduction to comparative politics as well as other courses in the Department’s graduate and undergraduate programs. Salary and credit toward tenure will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
