Applications are invited from outstanding candidates in the fields of Media and Communications, Sociology, Middle East Studies or Cultural Studies. The successful candidate will join an established and successful department, on grade point average ranked first in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and a flourishing Centre conducting research on the Middle East. Candidates will join a collaboration project run with the American University of Sharjah, and involving field research in Morocco, Jordan, UAE and Tunisia. Candidates should have excellent communication, sophisticated data gathering, interviewing, textual analysis and interpretation skills; a demonstrable interest in Middle East political and civic cultures and in media and artistic/social interventions; excellent working knowledge of Arabic; and a working knowledge of French. The candidate should possess, or be close to being awarded, a PhD in Sociology, Cultural Studies, Middle East Studies, Media and Communications, or a related social science discipline, and have a proven ability to write to publishable standard. Duration: 1 February 2016 to 30 June 2017. Contract Type: Fixed Term, 28 hours per week.
