Under the Kuwait Program at Sciences Po, in partnership with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), we are currently recruiting a Scientific Advisor to the Kuwait Chair based at Sciences Po’s Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), with commensurate compensation. The Scientific Advisor will dedicate his/her research and teaching to the region.

The position is open for a duration of either one to two years, and will start on September 1st, 2020 until either August 2021 or August 2022 based on the applicants preference.

All professors and researchers who are full-time faculty members focused on the social sciences or economics, with an interest in the Middle East or Gulf region, are eligible to apply. The ideal candidate will have a research focus on one of the following subjects: political economy issues, human development policies, urbanism, environment, comparative study of legislative cycles, or health.

This position provides 50,000€ in research funds per year, and the incumbent is expected to develop either a one or two-year research project in the field of the Chair. The Scientific Advisor is expected to publish his/her research findings before the end of contract with mention of the Kuwait Program at Sciences Po.

The Scientific Advisor to the Kuwait Chair will support the development of original research and teaching on the Middle East and North Africa, including teaching two graduate-level courses per year at the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA). Courses last 24 hours over 12 weeks, and are scheduled in the Fall and Spring semesters.

The incumbent will also contribute to an annual series of public events and private meetings in Paris and Kuwait, and commit to a minimum of two one-week trips to Kuwait yearly.
