Salary Range:

£41,526 – £54,132 (G8/Ac3) per annum inclusive of London Allowance (Lecturer)

Successful candidates who have not yet completed their PhD will be appointed on Grade 7 (£34,957 – £41,136 per annum inclusive of LA), and re-graded to Grade 8 on successful completion of their PhD.

About the Department

The Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS invites applications for a permanent post at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Politics of the Middle East starting in Spring 2020.

The Department is known for its deep engagement with the political realities of Africa, Asia and the Middle East and for providing innovative and challenging perspectives for understanding these realities. Comprehensive coverage of the politics of the Middle East has traditionally been a key strength of the Department and its MSc Middle East Politics programme is one of the largest in the world and widely respected.

We are looking for a scholar with a promising research agenda and publication record, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching. The appointee will strengthen and work with the Department’s group of Middle East scholars, and they will actively contribute to and shape the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Knowledge of Northern Africa (the Maghreb) is an advantage to complement existing expertise in the Department. We are open as to thematic specialism, but particularly welcome applications from candidates with a background in comparative and/or international politics of the Middle East.
