The Department/ College

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, which is part of the College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities, is an interdisciplinary department that offers undergraduate programs in International Studies and Emirati Studies and graduate programs in Diplomacy and International Affairs (MA), Public Administration (Executive Masters), and Museum Studies (MA).

The College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities (CSSH), which also houses the Department of Natural Science and Public Health, is firmly grounded in the UAE’s determination to build a sustainable future while preserving the integrity of its traditions.  The College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and minors in key areas that promote the study of issues related to environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability.  The majors in the College take a broad, multidisciplinary approach to identifying and addressing the complex, intertwined areas of modern society and its sustainable relationship to the
natural environment.  CSSH students are uniquely equipped, through research and internship experience, to understand and to work at the intersections of the traditional disciplines of the cultural, social, humanitarian, political, scientific and technological fields. 

The Opportunity

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position (open rank) in Political Economy, with a background in Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology or related disciplines. Strong theoretical and methodological skills are desirable. Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate-level courses, including courses on Comparative Political Systems; State, Society, and the Economy, and Development and Underdevelopment. Other courses include those related to the candidate’s area of specialization, and possibly graduate level courses.

The Requirements

Candidates should have a Ph.D.  at the time of appointment and the capacity to teach and research in an interdisciplinary environment. Evidence of teaching and research excellence and experience is important, including the potential to supervise thesis projects.
