Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology invites applications from qualified individuals for a 3-year, full time postdoc position.
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies has 21,2 full-time academic staff, 6,2 of whom are in Religious Studies.
The department teaches and supervises philosophy and religious studies at bachelor-, master- and PhD-level. In addition it holds responsibility for the introductory course in philosophy, Examen Philosophicum, for the whole university, and offers a number of other courses available to the whole university.
We have several active research groups, and a number of active research projects. The academic staff shows high activity in research and publication as well as in communicating to the public, both individually and in groups.
Applicants must hold a phd, and they must have documented research qualifications within the study of religion in the Middle East.
The postdoc position is not tied to a specific, ongoing research project. Applicants will be free to follow their own research plans, and they must present a clear plan (maximum 5-6 pages) for their own, ongoing and planned projects.
Teaching is a central part of the position, calculated at 1/3 of the position, and following the needs of the department. The amount per semester will vary over time.
Applicants ought to be able to teach broadly within the history of religions. They must be able to teach Judaism and Islam at the introductory level, and some theory and method at all levels. Part of the teaching duty will be devoted to developing teaching and learning support on digital platforms.
In assessing applicants, the committee will stress the quality of research and the research plans. Formal pedagogical competence, teaching experience and experience in developing teaching on digital platforms may be taken into account.

Terms of appointment
The position of postdoc is placed within code 1198 of the State salary regulations, and is remunerated according to salary level 57 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK 488.900 – per year. Two percent of the gross salary is deducted and paid into the State Pension scheme.
Preferred start up is early autumn 2017. Work place is NTNU Dragvoll, Trondheim.
The appointment will be made in accordance with regulations for fellowship appointments at universities, and with regulations concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. A contract will be drawn up detailing the period of appointment and required duties.
