The Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at New York University invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track position as Faculty Fellow to begin September 1st, 2016, pending budgetary and administrative approval. The appointment will be for one year, renewable for a further two years.
We are looking for an outstanding junior scholar in any social science or humanities discipline whose research offers a critical perspective on the contemporary Middle East. The ideal candidate has an in-depth understanding of the modern Middle East, knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language, and has a Ph.D. in one of the following fields: Anthropology, Comparative Middle Eastern Studies, Contemporary Middle Eastern History, Cultural Studies, Politics/Political Economy, Sociology, or Urban Studies/Geography. PhD must be in hand by time of appointment and must have been completed no earlier than September 2011. The appointee will be expected to teach at the graduate level (MAs and some PhDs), advise MA students in the role of Director of Graduate Studies, and participate in the activities of the Kevorkian Center. A demonstrated research and teaching experience is required, and advising experience is a plus.
