Description:  U.S. citizen candidates, or non U.S. citizens with exceptional relevant experience, are invited to apply for one or more non-tenure-track Assistant / Associate Professor positions at a senior national security education institution in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Successful candidates may be based either in Abu Dhabi, UAE or at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies (NESA) in Washington DC with frequent travel to Abu Dhabi depending on program needs. Candidates should be teaching focused with an outstanding academic background, solid research credentials and proven evidence of excellent teaching skills, ideally at the graduate level. Candidates will write and teach a senior-level curriculum in a strategy and security studies-focused course, help define and support the development of the national defense college, support the building of an institutional effectiveness program at the college, and provide mentoring to students within the institution.

The successful candidate will serve as an Assistant / Associate Professor and conduct the following activities:

   Teach courses within a strategy and security studies course Develop course syllabi including educational objectives, instructional material and lesson plans for periods of instruction Develop and conduct multinational and inter-ministerial exercises 

   Consult with staff to create new educational programs and curriculum Assist in the development of new educational delivery tools (computer-based learning, web, social media, traditional media, etc.) in accordance with college philosophy 

   Manage educational courses and assist with ongoing accreditation efforts Instruct participants using formal lectures, demonstrations, seminars, and facilitated group discussions Guide and support student research and grade papers 

   Evaluate participant progress and mentor: be available for participantfaculty consultations, provide systematic documented feedback on performance and contribution based on course learning objectives, identify participant learning difficulties, facilitate methods to encourage increased performance and recommend remedial action where necessary 

   Support curriculum review, academic governance policies, accreditation and quality assurance Remain current with advances in andragogy (adult education techniques) Remain current with research activities in their areas of expertise and contribute to the body of knowledge in their subject area by writing and publishing 

   Participate in college boards and service activities 

   Support outreach and partnership building efforts 


REQUIRED EDUCATION: Must possess a terminal degree (Ph.D./Ed.D./J.D.) from an accredited university.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Evidence of teaching excellence, usually acquired via full-time teaching, is required. At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience and at least three (3) years of experience with research/curriculum development at an accredited university/college is preferred. For Associate Professor: at least five (5) years of relevant, full-time teaching experience and at least five (5) years of experience in curriculum development/review at an accredited university/college, preferably including experience at the graduate level or for retired military officers (0-6 or above) or former senior government officials two (2) years of teaching experience coupled with exceptional professional experience. Experience in a U.S. senior service college is a plus. 

DESIRED SKILLS: Degree specialization and relevant experience and research should be in areas such as: National Security and Strategy, Defense Studies, Leadership, Cyber Security Studies, International Law, International Relations, Public Policy, Diplomacy, Information as an Instrument of Statecraft, Crisis Management, Methods of Research and Argumentation, Political Economy, Middle East Security Policy, or other areas relevant to the mission of NDC. Cross-cultural experience, particularly previous experience teaching or working in the Middle East and/or demonstrated expertise in national security education utilizing andragogy (adult education techniques) in a multi-national/ multi-cultural setting is also highly desired. Arabic language proficiency is desired but all courses will be conducted in English. Expert knowledge of the Middle East and other relevant regions is a plus.
