The Association for the Study of Persianate Societies (ASPS) and the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) are pleased to announce the launch of the ASPS/MANUU Visiting Scholar Fellowship, beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year. Intended as a visiting scholar matching grant for post-doctoral researchers and faculty, the grant carries a stipend of $5,000.00 for travel expenses, the purchase of books, and research expenses connected to archival research in the libraries of India, for the duration of six months. The visiting scholar will be connected to the H. K. Sherwani Center for Deccan Studies at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University and will be provided with free lodging at the Guest House of the main campus of MANUU. The ASPS/MANUU visiting scholar must be a specialist in the Indo-Persian cultural tradition, preferably specializing in the Persianate history of the Deccan, including the development of Persianate artistic traditions, political practices, administrative structures and social and religious institutions. The deadline for the submission of application is May 15, 2014. The recipient of the award will be announced by June 15, 2014.
