Applications are invited for the endowed post of Chair in Contemporary Turkish Studies in the European Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The appointment will be from 1 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Chair has been established on a permanent basis as a result of the generosity of various donors.

We seek an outstanding candidate to provide academic leadership in research, teaching and related public activities. The appointee will have a suitable record of achievement in both research and teaching, will have a good knowledge of the Turkish language and society, as well as a PhD in a relevant subject. Preference may be given to those with an interest in the wider region of SE Europe.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the activities of the European Institute and to strengthen its coverage of one or more of its disciplines- politics, economics, geography, history, political economy, international relations, law and philosophy.  Its teaching is exclusively at the post graduate level.  For further information on the Institute, go to:  http://www2.lse.ac.uk/europeanInstitute/home.aspx
