DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in Middle Eastern Studies, to be based in one of the following departments: Geography, History, or Politics.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Middle Eastern Studies or in Geography, History, or Political Science or related field with a specialization in the Middle East from an accredited college or university is preferred at the time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward terminal degree completion by appointment date will be considered. Completion of the terminal degree is required prior to the start of the second probationary year.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record. The successful candidate will be assigned to one of three academic departments (Geography, History, or Politics) that best fit his/her disciplinary focus. Instructional assignments will include general education and major-specific courses on the Middle East and will also include other courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of HSU, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the home department and students.

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are teaching; research, scholarship, and creative activity; and service to the University, profession, and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
