Area and Global Studies, an academic unit in The Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Grand Valley State University, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the new program of Global Studies and Social Impact (GSI). We seek highly qualified candidates who will contribute to the growth of the new global studies program and enhance the intellectual diversity of the unit by complementing existing expertise in the unit. Areas of expertise could include: global inequality, migration, trans-nationalism, global health, global communication, environment/sustainability, human rights, gender, race or ethnicity. Successful applicant must be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
• Ph.D. in relevant field by August 6, 2017
• Ability to complement existing expertise in the unit
• Ability to teach culminating interdisciplinary capstone course and other GSI core courses
• Demonstrated success in teaching about global issues
• Demonstrated scholarly activity and research agenda in global issues and social impact
• Ph.D. in Global Studies
• Ability to contribute to an additional existing interdisciplinary program within the college, particularly Human Rights, Middle East Studies, East Asian Studies, African/African American Studies, Latin American and Latino/a Studies, or the anticipated Digital Studies minor.
• Demonstrated local or global community engagement with global issues
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced level courses in Global Studies and Social Impact and develop new courses relating to their interests while contributing to another program in the college. Faculty members are required to demonstrate excellence in teaching, maintain an active research agenda and show service to the program, department, college, and university community. Ordinarily, tenure-track faculty members teach three courses a semester.
