The Department of Communication at Georgia State University seeks a tenure track professor (rank open, associate or full preferred) to begin August 2012, pending budgetary approval. We seek candidates with a distinguished record of published and externally funded research in cross-cultural visual/image and/or discourse analysis, connecting to area specialization in the greater Middle East (State Department designated MENA countries and/or Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran) and preferably including competency in one of the region’s major languages. Preference will be given for strengths in one or more of the following methodologies: network analysis, focus group, the meta-analysis of statistical data, informatics or information science. The successful candidate will also have a documented focus in one or more of the following research literatures: the socio-political role of popular culture and media systems; new media technologies (including mobile/social media) and their role in local communicative networks; the impact of media technologies on youth culture, civic engagement and/or political participation and activism; research on the intersection of mass mediation and structures of conflict or violence prevention.

The application should include a letter of application, a curriculum vitae that documents an active, mature, and externally fundable research program, a sample of scholarly writing, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and three letters of recommendation.
