invite applications for a tenured
Professorship in Iranian Studies (salary grade W3)
The successful applicant will be required to cover the area named above in research and teaching.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
The successful candidate will represent Iranian Studies with a philological, cultural and historical focus. Areas of research will include various Iranian languages/ language levels and literatures focusing on Iranian cultures from antiquity to the early modern times. She or he will have a wide teaching experience in the core subjects of Iranian Studies (Philology, Religions, Literature, History).
The candidate will have international teaching experience and excellent research results that have been published in internationally renowned journals. She or he will furthermore have experience with acquiring funding for, and carrying out externally funded research.
The appointee will further develop and expand the cooperation with the colleagues of the neighbouring disciplines of Philology and History, as well as with the ones working on the region of the Middle East and North Africa. The successful applicant is expected to participate in the existing and upcoming research Alliances CRC 980 Episteme in Motion. Transfer of Knowledge from the Ancient World to the Early Modern Period, Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies and the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender and Diversity Studies at the Department of History and Cultural Studies of Freie Universität Berlin.
The appointee is expected to make a significant contribution to undergraduate advising in the Bachelor’s degree program History and Culture of the Middle East and Northern Africa, in the Master’s degree program Iranian Studies and in the post-graduate programs of the Berliner Antike-Kolleg. She or he will develop and manage independent projects but also work collaboratively with colleagues of non-university research institutes (especially with the long-term project Turfan Research of The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the also with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science).
