Radiograph of a Family” (Firouzeh Khosrovani, 2020)

In this poetic and personal exploration, Iranian filmmaker Firouzeh Khosrovani uses photographs, letters, re-creations and archival footage to examine her parents’ marriage, which reflects the divide between traditionalism and modernization in the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution. Charting the course of the relationship from when her mother quite literally married a photograph of her father through correspondence passionately debating a series of disagreements on religion and secularism and arts and culture, it becomes clear that their ever-changing dynamic is inextricably entwined with larger political circumstances.
