CMEIS Graduate & Faculty Research Colloquium
Graduate & Research Colloquium
Friday, February 17 | 12:00-3:00 PM
FedEx Global Center, 4003 (4rth floor)
In this colloquium, graduate students and faculty specializing in Middle East and Islamic Studies will workshop their in-progress research. The primary goal of the colloquium will be building bridges between graduate students and faculty from various disciplines and departments across campus. The guiding principle of the colloquium is that continual intellectual support by thoughtful feedback from peers should be part of our academic life.
We will have six presenters for this colloquium. Each scholar will share their research in the form of a piece of writing (no more than 25 pages double-spaced) a week in advance. On the day of the meeting, each presenter will briefly present their work (10 minutes) followed by feedback from the group (20 minutes).
Presenters will include:
- Melissa Camp
- Kylie Broderick – “The Material Production of National Spirit: Advertisements in Magazines Circulating in Greater Syria and Its Diaspora (1920s-1940s)”
- Afroz Taj
- Caroline Williams – “The Geo-Gendered Contradiction of U.S. Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency in the Middle East”
- Yusuf Carter
