Discussion: “Arabic in Professional Contexts with Katy Whiting of the Sijal Institute”

 

Katy Whiting is the Managing Director of the Sijal Institute for Arabic Language and Culture in Amman, Jordan. She has extensive experience teaching Arabic and developing curricular materials at the K-12 and collegiate levels. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin, where she specialized in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language and Curriculum Design. Whiting will discuss her journey, both personal and professional, with the Arabic language as a non-native speaker in the Arabic-speaking world. Sponsored by the NC Consortium for Middle Eastern Studies, the UNC Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies, and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Department.
