The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies at Emory University, Atlanta, GA invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, to begin Fall 2022. Applicants must have Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2022. Disciplinary, regional, and chronological parameters are open; a focus on material culture and excellent relevant language skills are strongly preferred. Applicants should be able to teach survey courses in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, including the department’s Introduction to Middle Eastern Civilizations, as well as more specialized courses in their area of expertise. The successful applicant will demonstrate an excellent record in scholarship and an ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will be expected to participate actively in the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, its archaeology program, the Michael C. Carlos Museum, and other departments and programs involved in the study of the ancient world at Emory.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, a writing sample (an article or a book or dissertation chapter), three letters of recommendation, two sample undergraduate course syllabi, and a statement in which candidates reflect upon their experience and vision regarding the teaching and mentorship of students from diverse backgrounds.
