International Studies, Middle East Studies and Political Science at Dickinson College are seeking qualified applicants for one two-year visiting assistant professor position in Middle East and North African Politics beginning in academic year 2020-21. A completed or nearly-completed Ph.D. in Political Science, International Relations, or related discipline is required.


Applicants should be able to teach the introductory International Studies/Political Science course “International Relations” as well as a selection of upper-level courses on the politics of the Middle East and North Africa. This mix of disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching responsibilities includes working as part of team supervising a spring semester International Studies oral examination of senior majors and helping support the Middle East Studies program with the above-mentioned cross-listed courses and by participating in that program’s co-curricular programs. The teaching load is five courses per year.


Candidates should identify in their application letter the courses they are prepared to teach and should have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary liberal arts environment. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.


Dickinson College is a highly selective, private, four-year liberal arts college with 2,400 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia.
