The University of Cyprus announces one (1) academic position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Lecturer. Department of Turkish and Middle Eastern Studies One position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in the following field of study: Modern Arabic Literature or Modern Arabic Linguistics with competence in teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language. The successful candidate is expected to take over the supervision and development of the Arabic Teaching Program. Experience of teaching Arabic at various levels is essential. For all academic ranks, an earned doctorate from a recognized university is required. Requirements for each academic rank depend on the candidate´s years of academic experience, the research record and scientific contribution, involvement in teaching and in the development of high quality undergraduate and graduate curricula.

The minimum requirements for each academic rank can be found on the webpage: www.ucy.ac.cy/goto/hure/el-GR/Odigoi.aspx. The official languages of the University are Greek and Turkish. For the above position knowledge of Greek is necessary. Holding a citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus is not a requirement. Foreign candidates who are elected for the position but do not have knowledge of Greek (the language of instruction for this position), are initially offered the position for a period of maximum two years, until they demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the Greek Language. The annual gross salary for this position (including the 13th salary) is: Assistant Professor (Scale Α13-Α14) €57.694,26 – €77.811,11 Lecturer (Scale Α12-Α13) €48.723,61 – €71.358,82.

Interested individuals must submit the following items by Friday, 30th of December 2011: 

  1. A letter stating the academic rank or ranks for which the applicant is interested in, the field of study and the date when he/she may be able to assume duties in the event of selection.
  2. A Curriculum Vitae (6 copies).
  3. A brief summary of previous work and a statement of plans for future research (up to 1500 words – 6 copies).
  4. A list of publications (6 copies).
  5. Copies of the three most representative publications (6 copies).
  6. Certified Copies of Degree certificates.

Ιn addition, the applicants must ask three academic referees to send recommendation letters directly to the University. Τhe names and addresses of these referees must be submitted along with the application, since additional confidential information may be sought. The recommendation letters must be received by the University by Friday, 30th of December, 2011. The Curriculum Vitae and the statement of previous work and plans should be written in Greek or in Turkish and in one international language, preferably English.
