Chatham House is pleased to invite applicants for the Turkey Senior Fellowship in the Academy for Leadership in International Affairs at Chatham House. The Fellowship is intended to provide an established expert or practitioner who is a Turkish citizen with the opportunity to write, speak at events, expand his or her personal networks and further develop an understanding of critical issues in international affairs, as a Senior Fellow of the Academy.

The Fellow will have the opportunity to conduct research from Chatham House, including consultations with experts within the institute’s extensive network.

The Fellow will also take part in the Academy’s Leadership Programme. This will comprise approximately one training session or seminar each week, ranging from skills-based training to knowledge-based seminars.

This Fellowship is part of Chatham House’s new Academy for Leadership in International Affairs.

Research topics

The Fellow will spend six months at Chatham House and will be hosted by and based in one of Chatham House’s research departments, either International Security or the Middle East and North Africa Programme. During this time, the Fellow will conduct a research project of their own design on one of the research topics as specified below:

Research topics with the International Security Department:

1. Regional Insights Into Nuclear Security

2. Tactical Nuclear Weapons in Europe and Ballistic Missile Defences

3. The Impact of Insecurity on Young People in Turkey

Research topics with the Middle East and North Africa Programme:

1. Political Economy in the MENA Region

2. New Actors and Civil Society

3. MENA Energy

Application process

The application window for the fellowship is from 1 April 2014 until Sunday 8 June 2014.The fellowship will begin in September 2014 and will last for six months.

The fellowship is open to Turkish citizens (residing in Turkey or domiciled elsewhere). Candidates should be at an advanced stage of their career as an expert or practitioner in government, the private sector, civil society, academia and the broader policy community.
