The Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES) at the American University of Beirut invites applications for a full-time position in Middle East studies with a focus on the contemporary Arab world. We expect to hire at the assistant professor level. The position will begin September 1, 2014.

The successful candidate will offer a broad interdisciplinary Introduction to Middle East Studies course and a Theories and Methods course for our MA students. Ability to teach courses on the history/politics of Lebanon and other Arab countries and/or the political economy of the Arab world is a plus.

Other duties will include assisting the CAMES director with curriculum development, advising MA students, and coordinating CAMES-related events.

Candidates should have completed their PhD in Middle East studies or a relevant field by the time of appointment, have teaching experience, hold promise of original scholarship, and be interested in working in a liberal arts environment. Fluency in Arabic is expected.
