Applications are invited for two positions(1 Full-Time, Fixed Term for 1 year; 1 Part-Time 0.5 FTE, Fixed Term for 1 year) at Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education. The successful applicant will have a strong teaching profile and be able to make a strong contribution to the academic profile of the College. S/he will be required to show a commitment to and participate in the development of the post-orientalist, post-traditional, multicultural, and interdisciplinary agenda for the study of Islam and Muslims as defined by the College.

The positions will be for a fixed-term of one year in the first instance at Teaching Fellow level. The successful applicant will have proven teaching expertise in the area of Islamic Economics and Finance and be able to contribute to teaching in Islamic Commercial Law, Applied Islamic Banking and Insurance, Islamic Accounting and Auditing. S/he may also be considered as the Co-ordinator for the College’s programmes accredited by the SQA. Active participation in the activities of other SQA Programmes and possibly the College postgraduate programmes is also expected.

The Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education is set to launch new educational courses to build on, and offer support to its range of highly-rated post-graduate programmes in multiculturalism and the study of Islam and Muslims in conjunction with other religions. Working with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), the College is formalising the following programmes to complement its post-graduate work:

Professional Diploma in Islamic Economics and Finance
Advanced Diploma in the Study of Islam and Muslims
Advanced Diploma in Arabic Language
Diploma in Arabic Language
Certificate in Arabic Language

These carefully-crafted programmes will offer study opportunities to interested and qualified candidates and will get under way from January 2014. The College is confident they will prove as popular as the community classes it has been running successfully for several years.
