The Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilization, University of Washington in Seattle, WA, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Persian Civilization, to begin September 2013. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Candidates should have completed the requirements of a Ph. D. by the start of the appointment; native or near-native fluency in both Persian and English is required, along with proficiency in another Middle Eastern or Central Asian language. Teaching duties will include but are not limited to undergraduate survey courses in Islamic world and Persian and Iranian civilizations as well as seminars in classical and/or modern Persian language, literature and culture. Candidates will also be expected to contribute to the multiple graduate programs in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at the University of Washington.
