UNC Study Abroad

The Center recommends students interested in study abroad explore the UNC Study Abroad Office website and attend one of their events. Study Abroad 101 Info Sessions cover all the basics of study abroad, including program types, credit transfer, program costs, and funding. Upcoming events are listed on the Study Abroad Office’s online events calendar.

Available Programs in the Middle East and North Africa

There are many options to study abroad in the Middle East and North Africa during the semester and summer. Nearly every program combines language study with area studies. For more information, click the button below and select a program.

Costs and Funding

Program costs vary, and budget sheets are posted on each program page. Typically, students’ existing UNC financial aid and scholarships may be applied to fall and spring UNC study abroad programs. In addition to UNC financial aid, the Study Abroad Office offers scholarship options. Read more at studyabroad.unc.edu/students/costs-funding.

There are also other funding sources available to UNC students, including those specifically for language study. Embark Carolina’s Funding Finder is a great resource for learning more. It lists information for the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships, Boren Awards, and Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, as well as others.
