The Department of History at Reed College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of History and Humanities, with a specialization in modern or early modern African, Middle Eastern, or South Asian history. This is a one-year position with a possibility for renewal.  In addition to teaching courses in their own area, the appointee may also contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary Humanities program (see: http://academic.reed.edu/humanities). Teaching duties also include advising year-long senior theses.  Reed College is a small, distinguished undergraduate institution with a strong liberal arts curriculum, committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship. The College has a long tradition of exceptional visiting faculty, and seeks to provide its visitors with the competitive salary, benefits, and institutional resources commensurate to their significant contribution to our curriculum and intellectual culture. Reed also believes that cultural and intellectual pluralism is essential to the excellence of its academic program. In your letter of application, we encourage you to address how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or community service might support the commitment to diversity and inclusion articulated in the College’s diversity statement (http://www.reed.edu/diversity/).
