Position Summary The History Department invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, fixed-term Visiting Assistant Professor position. The anticipated length of this appointment is September 16, 2018- June 15, 2019. Reappointment is at the discretion of the school Director.

This position spans both the Religion and History faculty in the School of History, Philosophy, and Religion. The focus is any era of Islamic history. Preferred specialization is religion, as well as a regional focus on Africa. Candidate will teach pre-existing Ecampus classes in Islamic Religion, Islamic Civilizations, and African History surveys, and will develop new courses in their specialization for online delivery. Opportunities for on campus teaching possible.

Position Duties 80% Teaching: Position will teach nine courses a year over three terms (Fall, Winter, Spring). These will consist of lower division surveys, upper-division offerings and other appropriate courses in area of specialization. At least five of these classes will be taught online.

10% Research: Position is expected to have an active publication agenda.

10% Service: Position is expected to provide service to the department, school, college or university.

Minimum/Required Qualifications PhD in history or a related field.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, especially online courses.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
