The Department of International Relations at Ipek University invites applications for a one year postdoctoral fellowship position. Theoretical and methodological orientation is open. <p>The successful post-doctoral fellow will not have any teaching requirements. The applicant must have completed their PhD in the past 5 years.</p>

<p>Graduate School of International and Area Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies</p>
<p>The Graduate School of International and Area Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul, Korea, is seeking to fill TWO positions (for non-Koreans), effective September 1, 2013, to teach graduate students in English. The assistant professor level is preferred, but associate and full professor levels will also be considered according to qualifications. Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in the related area and preferably a few years of relevant experiences.</p>
<p>Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) is the most globalized institution of higher education in Korea. The university is known for its dynamic academic community with great cultural diversity, bolstered by its 45 foreign language departments. Many faculty members and students are from various foreign countries.</p>
<p>The expected monthly salaries for starting positions at assistant/associate/full professorship are 3,736,000 Korean Won (USD 3,396, based on KRW1,100/USD1), 4,272,400 Korean Won (USD 3,884), and 4,792,100 Korean Won (USD 4,356), respectively. Newly appointed professors will also be offered a one-way air ticket to Seoul, Korea and accommodations within or near the University.</p>
<p>Four social insurance schemes apply (Health, Pension, Unemployment and Industrial Accident);</p>
<p>Generous grants applicable for publications with internationally renowned academic journals (e.g. KRW 8 million (USD 7,273) for a publication indexed SSCI);</p>
<p>A round-trip airfare, per year, for a presentation of a paper at an international conference;</p>
<p>Contracts renewable annually upon fulfillment of annual teaching and research requirements.</p>

<p>Applications are invited for the above post based in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Nottingham.</p>

<p>The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, administering and assessing modules in Islamic Studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Teaching duties will include the module ‘Introduction to Islam’ for first year undergraduates and a module to second and third year undergraduates in a suitable area of Islamic Studies. Such areas include (but are not restricted to) Islamic theology and philosophy, Sufism, Islamic law, Qur&#8217;an and Hadith studies, Shi&#8217;ism, or Islam in the West. The post-holder will offer an MA class on an area suited to their research interests. Further teaching duties will be assigned in consultation with the Head of Department.</p>

<p>Candidates must have a good first degree and a relevant PhD, or a doctorate near completion. Experience of undergraduate teaching in the UK or abroad is essential. Experience of administration in a university department is desirable.</p>

<p>This full-time post is available on a fixed-term contract for a period of twelve months commencing on 1st September, 2013. This post is open to Job Share.</p>

This position is a joint hire in support of new undergraduate majors in Religious Studies and Global Studies. As a joint hire, the position will be housed in the department of Philosophy and Religion, but will provide active support to Global Studies. In addition to an active research agenda, the ability to teach existing courses on the history of Islam and on the Qur&#8217;an, as well as upper-level seminars in the candidate&#8217;s area of specialization, is essential. Must also be willing to teach Studying Religion: Theories and Methods, a required course for majors, on a rotating basis with other depatiment faculty. Excellence in both undergraduate teaching and scholarship is essential. Ph.D. prior to appointment.</p>

<p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must possess at least an M.A. or preferably a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), or a related field with a significant SLA focus, such as Near Eastern Languages, Turkish Language and Literature, Middle Eastern Studies, Comparative Literature, etc.  Applicants should have native or native-like proficiency in both Turkish and English. They must have demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching Turkish effectively at the college or university level in the U.S. and have appropriate work authorization for employment in the United States.  The successful candidate will assist in the development of a content-based, culturally-centered curriculum (incorporating aspects of literature, film, creative arts, and other subjects related to Turkish Studies) for the teaching of Turkish language and culture.  The successful candidate will be expected to work within the curriculum of the Middle East and Islamic Studies Program, and work on integrating the courses with the newly established Study Abroad Program at Koç University, Istanbul.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://mideast.unc.edu/files/2013/05/Fatih-2009BigScreen.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-2756 alignright" alt="Fatih-2009BigScreen" src="http://mideast.unc.edu/files/2013/05/Fatih-2009BigScreen-300x178.jpg" width="300" height="178" /></a>This February (2013), the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies took on the politically charged topic of veiling  at its annual conference with several goals in mind: to examine the persistence of stereotypical representations of the veil; to understand the veil and its multiple meanings, styles, and practices; and to recognize Muslim women as subjects rather than dehumanized objects or icons. <a href="http://geography.unc.edu/people/faculty-1/banu-goekariksel" target="_blank">Dr. Banu Gokariksel</a>, from the Department of Geography at UNC-Chapel Hill, explains why the veil often appears a convenient symbol of the Muslim Other to be feared, or alternatively, of the Muslim ideal to be upheld.
