Title of the project: Middle East Directions Programme

Job description:

The Middle East Directions Programme focuses on socio-political and religious transformations, geopolitics, conflicts and political economy of change in the Middle East. It has a strong conflict component, including research and educational activities and support to dialogue initiatives.

The Research Assistant will help the Director of the Programme in the coordination and implementation of his research and educational activities. In particular, s/he will support the Director in monitoring and analysing geo-political and geo- economic developments in the MENA region, with an emphasis on the Gulf region (Saudi Arabia, other GCC countries, Iran, Iraq and Yemen). S/he will assist in designing and implementing research, educational activities and dialogue initiatives in thematic areas such as the MENA regional order, economy and conflicts, and peace-building processes. S/he will provide support in coordinating the network of partners and contacts in the region, neighbouring countries, and the EU, as well as in the production of analysis that is more broadly relevant to the Programme’s activities.

Qualifications:

Essential:

– PhD or MA in Social Sciences and related disciplines.

– Analytical skills and capacities to assess the quality and relevance of information.

– Experience in research on Middle Eastern and North African issues.

– Excellent English writing skills.

– Autonomous, organized, sense of initiative.

 

Desirable:

– Experience in policy-oriented projects.

 

Languages: Fluency in a English and good command of Arabic (spoken and written) are essential. French, Turkish or Farsi would be an asset.
